Flexible working is not a new concept, but attitudes are changing when it comes to who works flexibly. With multi-generational workforces, increasing numbers of working parents alongside rising mental health and wellbeing issues - employers are increasingly turning to flexible working in answer to the challenges facing modern responsible businesses.

So how does this impact you in your role as an HR professional?

HR professionals are often relied upon by senior leaders, line managers and employees to ‘fix’ flexible working in their organisation. The challenges may vary from sector to sector, but the issues managed by HR professionals in relation to flexible working are often very similar.

This workshop is for you if you:

  • Are playing a role in making flexible working a reality in your organisation and are looking for support to develop a culture of trust and transparency that support flexible working for all
  • Believe that flexible working is a good thing for your organisation but need to influence senior leaders.
  • Want to empower line-managers to take more responsibility for making flexible working work for their teams, whilst continuing to perform and deliver on business objectives.
  • Want to meet other professionals in similar roles and gain practical know how around embedding flexible working.

The session will cover the five key components of flexible working:

Culture – Exploring the typical behaviours and language displayed across all levels within an organisation and how this sets the tone for what is considered flexible and family friendly ways of working.

Policy- Getting the basics right is important but writing a flexible and family friendly working policy is only the first step. Here we look at guidance on how to use the policies and have constructive conversations.

Communication & Workplace Support - Ensuring flexibility is “baked in” to your workplace culture means talking about it and encouraging complete transparency. We will discuss how open your organisation is about flexibility at work, ensuring that policies are easily accessible, and employees are consistently supported and feel confident in discussing their flexible working requirements with their Line Manager.

Metrics – Developing a robust and transparent flexible workplace culture will not happen overnight, particularly in larger organisations. This topic explores measuring and analysing results on an ongoing basis to ensure the organisation is progressing in the right direction to achieving the flexible working strategy and continuing to meet its business plan goals.

Recruiting flexibly –Demonstrate how to use the ‘Happy to Talk Flexible Working’ logo and strapline – an easy way to communicate the organisation’s commitment and ensure a consistent approach to flexible recruitment across the organisation.
